What is the ELAC?

The ELAC is a committee that has meetings that are responsible for advising on programs and services for English learners and the School Site Council on the development of the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA).

El ELAC son un comite responsables de asesorar sobre los programas y servicios para los alumnos y consejo del sitio escolar en el desarrollo del Plan Único para el Rendimiento Académico (SPSA).
Why is attending ELAC important?

The ELAC assists the school in the development of: The school's needs assessment, the school's annual language census, and ways to make parents aware of the importance of regular school attendance. If you have a student that is an English Learner, or in ELD classes at school, join the meetings so you can become better informed of the way they are being taught during that time of day.

¿Por que es importante asistir al ELAC?
El ELAC ayuda a la escuela en el desarrollo de: evaluación de la escuela de necesidades de, el censo anual de idiomas de la escuela, y las maneras de hacer que los padres conscientes de la importancia de la asistencia regular a la escuela. Si usted tiene un estudiante que está aprendiendo Inglés, o en clases de ELD durante la escuela, asista a las reuniones para que pueda estar mejor informado de la forma en que se les enseña durante esa hora del día.

What is English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)?

Each California Public School from Kindergarten through grade 12, with 21 or more English learners must form a functional English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC). ELAC is a committee for parents or other community members who want to advocate for English Learners.

How does ELAC help my student and me?

Responsibilities

1. ELAC shall be responsible for advising the principal and staff on programs and services for English learners and the School Site Council on the development of the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA).

2. ELAC shall assist the school in the development of:

a. The school's needs assessment.

b. The school's annual language census.

c. Ways to make parents aware of the importance of regular school attendance.

Composition Requirements

Requirements for ELAC elections include:

1. Parents of English learners comprise at least the same percentage of the ELAC membership as English learners constitute of the school’s total student population. For example, if 25 percent of the students in a school are English learners, then parents/guardians of English learners must comprise 25 percent of the ELAC membership.

2. Other members of ELAC can be parents/guardians, school staff, and /or community members as long as the minimum percentage requirement for EL parents is maintained.

When are ELAC meetings held at Hillview?

ELAC meetings are held in the library on the 3rd Thursday of every month, except when affected by Winter and Spring Break. Please refer to the calendar below for ELAC and DELAC meeting dates.
