welcome to Science!

welcome to Science!

Hello, I am Miss Cruz.

I teach 6th grade science, science DI (Science in Spanish) and ELD (English Language Development). This is my 10th year teaching at Hillview Junior High. I love the community and I will do my best to make this school year amazing!

I also run Hillview's anime club, where we watch anime and discuss it. We also hold anime themed competitions at lunch. I also do my best to showcase Japanese culture to the club members; like origami, language, and traditions.

I also help Ms. Viechec with MESA club. MESA stands for Mathematics, Engineering, Science, and Achievement. It is a club that helps students get interested in these subjects and attain skills that will help them succeed in those fields. The students work on different projects and then in March they compete against other East Bay schools at CSU East Bay. The club is a lot of fun and the students learn a lot about science, engineering, coding, and math along the way.

I graduated with a BA from UC Berkeley in Molecular and Cell Biology, with an emphasis in infectious diseases and a minor in US History. Then I got my teaching credential from CSU East Bay. Then I got my accreditation to teach science in Spanish 7 years ago. I love explaining science to students and helping them understand the world around them.
